Most players are prepared for when an opponent is dribbling at them. They know to get into a good defensive stance and stop penetration and then delay etc. However, when it's one of their teammates who is dribbling at them, they choose to use the "deer in a headlight" technique and just freeze and stand still. Of all the options that are available, this is probably the worse one to choose. If the player upfront stands still, it not only will she get in the way of the dribbler but she makes it easy for the defender who is marking her to stop the dribbler. An alternative to just standing still is to spin away. Not only does this allow you to get out of the way of the dribbler, it also forces the defender to make a decision. If she decides to stay and stop the dribbler, the player with the ball just plays a simple through ball and sends you through to goal. If the defender decides to stay with you, this allows the player with the ball to get straight to goal. As a general rule it's best to go toward the wide side of the field (toward the middle) as that will give a better angle for the pass and a shot but if that isn't available, then go in the other direction. Or, make a diagonal run in any direction. The key is, when a teammate is dribbling at you, GET OUT OF THE WAY!
